Procaster Settings

A brief description of the settings you'll encounter in this versatile application when configuring Procaster for your specific needs.

Livestream Tab

  • Live: This option will allow you to begin broadcasting automatically without the need to enter the Livestream Studio and cue the source.
  • On-Demand: Choose to have your recording added to the On-Demand section automatically.
  • Auto-pilot: Add the recording to Auto-pilot without any additional management.
  • Channel Page: Automatically switch your channel page's layout based on the resolution of your broadcast.

When these settings are configured, save your preferences.

Video Tab

The Video Tab is where you can configure your Video Source and Broadcasting settings. Videotab.png

  • Source: Select your Video Source. If your Video Source is not visible, please ensure it is a digital connection capable of streaming video.
  • Output: Designate an output resolution. Please note, higher resolutions will require additional upload bandwidth. Lower if needed.
  • Aspect Ratio: Choose your aspect ratio - 4:3 or 16:9. Free channels with 16:9 selected will have their image cropped.
  • Target Frame Rate: Enter your target Frame Rate. DV Cameras can stream at a higher frame rate, while Web Cams usually have a lower limitation. Check with your manufacturer. Please note, a higher frame rate requires additional upload bandwidth.
  • Target Bitrate: The Bitrate is the quality of the image being broadcast. Free channels are limited to a total bitrate of 500kbps. The higher the bitrate, the higher your upload speed will need to be. Set this bitrate with your connection in mind.
  • VBR: (Variable Bitrate). This setting will allow your broadcast quality to fluctuate as your connection varies. For a consistent quality, we recommend disabling VBR.
  • Keyframe Intervals: The higher the keyframe interval, the fewer overall keyframes during playback.
  • Deinterlacing: Select Deinterlace (if available) for a cleaner video from your video source.

Audio Tab

  • Source: Choose your desired Audio Source for broadcasting. The Speaker's Audio Setting will Broadcast audio that would normally be played through your speakers (output). This is very useful when broadcasting your desktop.
  • Target Bitrate: Select the quality of the audio. The higher the bit rate, the higher the quality. We recommend somewhere between 48 and 64 kbps.
  • Sampling Rate: Designate your Audio Sampling Rate.
  • Channels: Stereo or Mono

Broadcast Live using the Livestream Studio

To broadcast live from the browser based encoder in Livestream Studio simply login to your Studio from the My Account & Channels section of Livestream.com, or directly at www.livestream.com/studio.

Click on play below to watch the help video.

Broadcast Live from your Web Cam or DV Camera

If you're logged into your studio, it is available to be broadcast live from your webcam or DV Camera.

Note: If you can't see or hear yourself or others, check that the devices are plugged in and the device settings are set correctly. For details on how to adjust input settings, see Change your audio and video settings.

1. From the Broadcast Live tab, click on the Sources tab on the left panel of the Livestream window. All connected video cameras appear on the list. You should see your live image on your video camera. If you are using Flash Media Encoder to encode it will show up in this menu as "External Feed"

2. To go Live, click the Cue Button button for your Camera. Your Web Cam is loaded and cued to play next. To transition manually, simply click the flashing "Transition" button.

Note: The cameras list will also include any sources used by your producers and associates. If desired, you may cue and transition to them as well.

3. A small pie chart lets you know how many people are currently viewing (including yourself).

Before transitioning to a cued clip in a live broadcast at least 50% of viewers must be synchronized. When this level of synchronization is reached, you will be able to click Transition to Cued Clip to broadcast the clip live. You can see what's being broadcast from the monitor.

4. On the Cam bit, click More Settings and select Wave or Line-In as the source.

5. A Manager needs to cue your cam to broadcast, so please make sure you contact a manager just before your set; We know this is rubbish but we have no choice;

6. To end the live broadcast, just log out (managers: click on restart autopilot from the Control Auto-pilot tab)

Notes on Live Broadcasting

  • Our stream has a maximum bit rate limit of 500kbps. If your Flash Media Encoder (external source) bit rate is above 500kbps, your stream will not be present within your Livestream Channel. Please ensure the total bit rate is below 500kbps. Livestream Premium Channels are exempt from this limitation when higher channel qualities are designated.
  • Lighting is very important. Make sure you are well lit from the front (that is, the light should shine at you from behind the camera).
  • You can record your live broadcasts to play back later using autopilot. See Record your live shows.
  • If you're collaborating with other producers, they can cue up the next clip while the person on air focuses on presenting. See Set up your team.
